Targa Tasmania, 2021: Tarraleah
It is with considerable sadness that I bring you photos of Targa Tasmania's Tarraleah stage, held on Friday the 23rd of April, 2021. Unfortunately, the preceding stage - Mt Arrowsmith, the tortuously windy section of road that begins the journey from Queenstown on the state's west coast to the capital city of Hobart in the south - saw the devastating loss of Shane Navin, a 68 year old veteran of several Targas, who lost control of his Mazda RX7, coming to rest in a culvert at Double Barrel Creek. His navigator, Glenn Evans, reportedly only received minor injuries.
And now, at the time of writing this article - only one day later - comes the dreadful news that there has been a double fatality with a Porsche 911 crewed by 68 year old Leigh Mundy and his navigator, Dennis Neagle, aged 59, having crashed during today's Cygnet stage. This has cast an even deeper pall over what was already a marred event. As a Tasmanian and motorsports fan, I know that I am not alone in expressing my sorrow for all those affected by these terrible tragedies.
What follow are my photos from Tarraleah, in no particular order. Messrs Mundy and Neagle's car is amongst those images. If this causes anyone with close associations with either of the deceased distress, I will not hesitate to remove the image.
Valete, Shane Navin, Leigh Mundy and Dennis Neagle. The Tasmanian motorsports community is thinking of you, your family and friends at this most tragic of times.

Ha! I did wonder who was driving Richard C’s greatest contribution to the Service. Those Subies do look pretty! Thought you might’ve been involved when the topsy turvy pic arrived the following day. Cheers.
