Ogni nuvola ...

Every Cloud ...

Not every cloud has a silver lining.  In fact, most clouds are nothing more than portends of endless faecality and annoyance.  However, on this one oh-so rare occasion, the cloud turned out to be dandy.  Better than dandy, actually!      The photos above and below show my X1/9 as it was:  not perfect but in quite good nick, with a few scratches and minor blemishes here and there.  Below are some 'after' photos, a sad illustration of the destructive powers of a certain small German short-haired pointer x Hungarian viszla dog who may or not bear a striking resemblance to a character played by Australia's own Hugh Jackman.  Bonnet Windscreen frame / roof Roof Roof Boot Doglette . Also copping some damage was my 1975 Galant hardtop, seen here under the protective tarp that mitigated the carnage so that the scratches could be cut and polished out.  Please also note the 1.2 metre high steel car-fort that ha

The Italian Corrispondente # 2: Fiat 126

The Italian correspondent spotted this nifty Fiat 126 - or, as it's often referred to, Fiat Niki - in Italy.  It's probably fair to say that the 126 is more of a spiritual descendant of the classic 500 than today's 500s are.    Why? , you ask.   Unlike contemporary front-engined, front-wheel drive 500s, the 126 maintained the rear-engine, rear-wheel drive set-up of the classic 500 and, as such , was effectively the end of the line for Fiats that also included the 600, 850 and 850 Sports.  It also shared its progenitor's diminutive wheel-base.  126s were manufactured in Italy, Poland, Yugoslavia and Austria ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_126 ).  However, the majority of them were actually built in Poland, where they attained almost cult-status and were nick-named the Maluch , meaning 'small one' or 'toddler' (ibid.). Random # 238: E70 Corolla

This E70 Corolla, manufactured sometime between 1979 - 1987, looked particularly trick with its prismatic paint scheme that was either brown or deep teal green, depending on the angle you viewed it from.  The JDM-style forward mounted mirrors looked sharp, too.  It was fitted with four-wheel discs and Mazda calipers, as well as some very stylish Wattanabe-styled alloys.  I can't even hazard to guess what motor it's running, as the options for rear-wheel drive Toyotas are nearly endless, so it could be running anything from a stock Corolla donk right through to some grunty performance twin-cam.  Nice!  U M P H (uppermiddlepetrolhead.blogspot.com.au.)
