Readers' Photos # 44: British Escort RS2000
RS2000 Escorts are well-loved by Aussie performance-Ford lovers. However, it's not well known that our own home-grown editions, whilst strongly resembling their British namesakes, have a number of fairly significant differences.
Externally, there's almost nothing in it. The Pommie RS2000s - like the one recently photographed in Manchester, England, by David Mathewson - feature simple flat-faced black exterior rear view mirrors whereas ours are fitted with the ubiquitous FoMoCo aero style versions, colour-coded to match the car.
The signature 'snoot' noses are common to the UK and Aussie RS, as are the sporty interiors with a sports steering wheel, centre console and heavily-bolstered Scheel front seats. Both have the same black rubber rear spoiler, too. Our cars come equipped with Volante alloy wheels, unlike those fitted to the British version, as shown above. The staggered RS2000 sticker is the same, as the image below demonstrates.
Interestingly, there were no four door RS2000s made in the UK or the rest of Europe, whereas a good many Australian versions were built in that configuration. According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Escort_(Europe)), British editions also featured strengthened body shells, to better withstand the rigours of rallying, but I can't find any evidence that this was so for cars manufactured Down Under.
The other big difference is that whilst both versions were fitted with the 2.0 litre OHC Pinto engine, those built in England were tweaked for performance but ours were essentially stock with no enhancements over the 2.0s also found in the Escort Ghias and Cortinas of the day. Exactly what mods were made to the former isn't clear but the same Wikipedia article does state that the RS2000 was introduced as an alternative to the "somewhat temperamental" twin-cam RS1600, so it seems likely that it had a few more beans than your garden-variety SOHC 2.0 litre.

The wearing of escorts in Beirut also helps too much to make them attractive to a large extent. When escorts wear nice
ReplyDeletedresses and at the same time do some makeup, they look beautiful and attractive. And by looking at them, people start
getting mad at them and are attracted to them.
