Car Enthusiasts' Monthly Drive and Lunch: July, 2018
Winter in Tasmania can get quite nippy. However, that rarely prevents a reasonable turn-out for the car enthusiasts' drive and lunch that departs from the 3C Church in Anglesea Street, South Hobart, around 11:00 am on of the third Wednesday of each month.
July's event was no exception, with many attendees and their beautiful cars gathering for coffee in the 3C cafe before they all headed south into the Channel area for lunch at Oyster Cove. Making the event even better was the addition of several cars that haven't participated before.
The lovely Triumph Herald featured above and below was one such vehicle. According to its owner, the car was a gift from a farmer to the Dover District High School where it was restored by students. There was quite a bit of chat about the origins of the car's front end; the owner says it's off a Vitesse (in effect, a six-cylinder Herald) but one chap said he'd been given to understand there was a quad-light version of the Herald available in Australia but not elsewhere in the world. Either way, it was a great looking car and one that attracted a lot of admiration and, in some cases, nostalgia.
UMPH isn't convinced he's seen this very tidy Triumph TR6 before, either. It was a gorgeous looking machine - straight and tidy with a great interior.
The tour du jour saw participants head from South Hobart and into Sandy Bay, along Sandy Bay Road, onto the Channel Highway and then through Kingston, Blackmans Bay, Margate, Snug, Electrona and into Oyster Cove for lunch at the local tavern. The cars made a very pretty picture and, by all accounts, the lunch was also very good.

Thanks go to Wayne for having organised this month's event. All the cars' owners are to to be commended, too, for having contributed to such a wonderful display.
Can't find photos of your car from today's get together? It's quite likely it will have been included in coverage of previous such events or, if you're even a semi-regular at the "First Sunday" gatherings at Sandy Bay, you may find them in UMPH Classics by the Beach posts (just use the search facility - the magnifying glass icon - in the top right hand corner of the screen to search for any type of vehicle or Tasmanian automotive event).
