Random # 269: 1965 Mustang Fastback
I was rather amused to have recently overheard a conversation in which a Mustang owner claimed he was getting new personalised rego plates for his car. When asked what they were going to say, he replied "JAM". "JAM?", quizzed his mate. "Yep. Just Another Mustang!"
Just another Mustang? I'm not sure that's quite fair; they are magnificent cars, afterall, and it's not often you see one that's anything but immaculate.
However, I might admit to being slightly less excited to see a 'stang than I used to be but that might be because ex-USA examples have become quite popular around Australia and are not uncommon sights at car shows and on our roads. 1960s' hardtops and convertibles are particularly prevalent.
There is, however, one model that I find irresistible: the original fastback! They might just be one of the most iconic cars of all time, as I'm sure you'll agree when you look at the ripper featured here.
According to its badging, the car's fitted with the 289 V8 that also saw service in Aussie-built Falcons and even the excellent Sunbeam Tiger. That'd make for a pretty competent car, well able to mix it with more contemporary vehicles, and real pleasure to tour Tasmania in!
