Upper Middle Petrol Head:

Way to go!  If you're going to drive the twisty, scenic roads of Tasmania's west coast, you might as well mix style and unadulterated performance while you're doing so. This striking yellow and blue, 308 Ford V8-powered Cobra replica would fit the bill perfectly, providing exactly the right combination of classic good looks with a light-weight fibreglass body, a very grunty motor and contemporary refinements to make the journey just a bit more comfortable.  Not so sure about the open top, though ; it's been known to rain a bit out Strahan way!    U M P H (uppermiddlepetrolhead.blogspot.com.au.) Mrs UMPH has cemented her place in the Upper Middle Petrol Head universe, having usefully spotted these magnificent Armstrong Siddeleys in the car park of the Strahan Village on Tasmania's wild and often wet west coast.  Yep, she's a keeper! There were four A-Ss - a coupe ute, a sedan and two limousines - plus a lovely drop-head Alvis touring Tasmania together from a number of mainland Australian states.  There was to be a fifth A-S.  However, last minute mechanical issues saw that car abandoned in favour of a very practical, but oh-so prosaic, Nissan X-Trail.  According to the owner of the ute, A-Ss were heavily imported from Britain into Australia after World War II, often taking forms not seen elsewhere in the world.  He also explained that the sphinx emblem, shown above and in several further photos below, was an evolving motif for the cars that became more elaborate depending on the model of A-S that it adorned.  Please enjoy the following photos.  If

According to Facebook, this 1964 EH Holden wagon, rego number CO 4106, was stolen from a locked garage in Underwood - near Lilydale, Tasmania - on Wednesday the 21st or Thursday the 22nd of March, 2018.  A white Nissan Patrol or Toyota Landcruiser may have been used to tow it from the scene. The EH's current whereabouts are not known.  If you see it or know where it might be, please contact Tasmania Police on 62302111 or 1312444.  It shouldn't be hard to spot ; cars like this stick out like dogs' goolies to classic car lovers, so please KALOF it and help see it returned to its rightful owner! Aussies love their EH Holdens!  But if there's one thing they love even more, it's hotted-up EH Holdens, like the one shown here, resplendent in metallic bluey-purple-ish paint! Like any classic hotted-up EH, the car also featured a set of fat mags, an HR disc brake front end, a dash-mounted tacho and gauges, a wooden three-spoke sports steering wheel, a floor-shift 'box and bucket seats.  The biggish exhaust suggests that the engine has undergone some work, in keeping with the general performance-enhanced theme.  Love your EHs, too (there are several more featured on this 'blog)?  How about other Holdens, Fords, Chryslers or classic Japanese, Italian or British marques?  Just use the search facility (magnifying glass icon) in the top right hand corner of the page or just have a browse. This magnificent ocean-liner of a Chevrolet was photographed at the 2018 Bream Creek Show, about an hour's drive east of Tasmania's capital city, Hobart. According to its gentleman owner, the car is ex-Queensland, having been in Tasmania for less than a year.   It's an Australian manufactured vehicle, produced by General Motors-Holdens Ltd, who had by that stage become a subsidiary of GM's operations in the United States of America.    To say the car was perfect would be to significantly understate the amazing quality of of its restoration ; every single aspect - from its paint, chrome and interior - were absolutely pristine and a true credit to whoever did the work and the current owner's diligent attention to detail in keeping it looking so fabulous.   U M P H (uppermiddlepetrolhead.blogspot.com.au.)
