Rest in Peace, Holden: The Hobart Wake
It won't be lost on Aussie car fans that there's been another death in the family. Chrysler's Australian operations passed away decades ago, followed more recently by Ford's and now, sadly, there's no H in GMH - not even in the form of a badged-up Korean four-pot or an Opel-derived, European-built Commodore. The Holden is no more. It's uncertain what, if any, presence US-based parent company General Motors will maintain in Australia. However, it seems to be widely accepted that the most that we can expect is some niche-marketed GM models - the Camaro and possibly the Silverado - converted to right-hand-drive. This may explain why the Variety Club's Holden Muster - held between the 3rd and 6th of September, 2020, in Motors' former Hobart Holden showrooms - felt more like a wake than a carefully curated car show.
