Random # 270: Circa 1970 Mach I Mustang Fastback

I'm no Mustang expert, having had to resort to Wikipedia to try to date this awesome right-hand drive Mach I.  As an educated guess, I'd say 1970, as the previous model / year features a vent on either side, quite high up, just above the rear mudguard.  The 1972 edition is altogether squarer, looking not too dissimilar to an XB Falcon hardtop (but not half as good, I reckon!). For my money, this car is only a bee's willy less desirable than the mid-60s' fastbacks that are, otherwise, my favourite Mustangs.  A red one was featured here on this 'blog only a few posts ago.   There's almost something of the Aston Martin  Vantage  about this car - less so for the rear view, perhaps - and, as they're one of my all time most-loved British vehicles, you can take that as high praise for this American muscle machine.  That and the fact that it had a steady stream of admirers for the hour or so it was parked in Hobart's Salamanca restaurant strip!

Random # 269: 1965 Mustang Fastback

I was rather amused to have recently overheard a conversation in which a Mustang owner claimed he was getting new personalised rego plates for his car.  When asked what they were going to say, he replied "JAM".  "JAM?", quizzed his mate.  "Yep.  Just Another Mustang!"  Just  another Mustang?  I'm not sure that's quite fair; they are magnificent cars, afterall, and it's not often you see one that's anything but immaculate. However, I might admit to being slightly less excited to see a 'stang than I used to be but that might be because ex-USA examples have become quite popular around Australia and are not uncommon sights at car shows and on our roads.  1960s' hardtops and convertibles are particularly prevalent.   There is, however, one model that I find irresistible:  the original fastback!  They might just be one of the most iconic cars of all time, as I'm sure you'll agree when you look at the ripper featu

Classic Fords at the Lenah Valley RSL: Sunday the 24th of February, 2019

The Classic Fords show, raising money for the  Soldier On veterans' charity, was fittingly held on the grounds of the Lenah Valley RSL on a very pleasant late summer's day.  There was a dazzling array of magnificent Falcons, Mustangs, F-trucks, a Customline and even a couple of excellent Escorts, plus a six-cylinder Zephyr on display. Gotta love a car with its own Mini-Me! U M P H (uppermiddlepetrolhead.blogspot.com.au.)

Random # 268: Valiant Coupe

Has this magic Mopar got you Chrysler types all hot and bothered?  Think it's a sexy beast, eh? It sure does look good.  Really good!  It's big 'n' mean, if you know what I mean.  A big Val in all its glory. Yep, this is one helluva car.  So, what sort of donk do you reckon it's packing?  A 265 hemi with triple Webers?  How about a 318 or a 340 V8??    Bigger?  A 5.7 litre hemi V8 from a 300C?  Not a 6.1 hemi V8, surely?! I'm not convinced I want to be the one to break this to you, people!  It might be a bit like a night out in Thailand and finding out that sultry babe you got down 'n' dirty with was ... A small block General Motors LS1!  Don't be fooled by the Chrysler motif ;  it's just make up, false lashes or a pair of over-sized stilettos when it's all said and done!  It may be 5.7 litres of V8 grunt but it sure ain't what got you all sweaty and panting with anticipation, now was it?!   Having said th
